Help Spread Awareness
Published
It's day 5 of the #ENDNURSEABUSE challenge.
You can be a catalyst for change. Today, we’re challenging you to initiate conversations at work about ways your hospital or organization can help eradicate workplace violence. Consider talking to your supervisor about it, too.
Here are a few additional ways to help spread awareness to #EndNurseAbuse:
- Help ensure hospitals and organizations take all reports of violence seriously.
- Help nurses understand that workplace violence also affects patient safety.
- Many hospitals and health care companies post signs and posters that say: “We do not tolerate violence of any kind.” With appropriate permissions, create a sign and post it in prominent locations within your unit.
- Spread a zero-tolerance mindset and attitude — be the change you wish to see.
- Use the Civility Index Dashboard from Dr. Edmonson and nurse Joyce Lee’s Civility Toolkit or the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory developed by Dr. Clark to understand the level of civility in your organization or unit. Use the data to track your progress.
- Write a code of ethics for your organization or even just your unit.
Does your workplace have posters illustrating its workplace violence policy? Take a picture and share it with us here, in our private Facebook group, or on Twitter, or Instagram. Tag us with #healthynurse.
